Drunken Joliet Man Gets Car Stuck on Tracks, Goes to Jail Without Injury: Cops

The train knocked the drunken Joliet man's Volkswagen into a field, police said.

A drunken Joliet man escaped with his life after a freight train knocked his car into a field, police said, but still ended up in the county jail when deputies determined he was under the influence and without a driver’s license.

Brant Jordan, 27, explained to the deputies how he was stopped at a rail crossing on River Road outside Wilmington shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Brant reportedly spotted a stationary train in the distance and — after waiting for about 15 minutes — he decided to make a U-turn.

“While doing this he went around the gate onto the tracks (and) his front tire got stuck on the tracks and he was unable to push it to safety,” police said.

Brant’s passenger, a 39-year-old woman, “exited the vehicle, and at that time they observed another train approaching them from the north at a high rate of speed,” police said.

This train struck Brant’s red volkswagen and knocked it into a field.

Brant was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was taken to the Will County jail.
