Family Dog Dies After Being Run Over By Hit-And-Run Motorist: Channahon Police
"In the unfortunate accident, a family has lost their dog," police said.

CHANNAHON, IL —The Channahon Police Department said over the weekend that someone's dog was run over and killed by a motorist. The police department was asking its social media followers for help locating the hit-and-run driver.
At 6:42 on Saturday, Channahon police said via Facebook that officers responded to a hit-and-run involving a vehicle collision with a dog on South Center Street between West Pine and West Bluff Streets.
"In the unfortunate accident, a family has lost their dog," the police shared. "An eyewitness states the vehicle was a black pickup truck heading northbound on S Center St. towards Route 6. The vehicle will have light front passenger side damage in the area of the headlight."

By 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the Channahon Police announcement had generated more than 110 comments and nearly 80 Facebook shares. However, a number of the people were blaming the owners of the dog who was killed, not the hit-and-run motorist.
"Kinda interesting, how if the person who hit the dog wanted to, could make the owner of the dog pay for the damages to their vehicle," one person wrote.
"He’s actually correct. Dog owners are supposed to keep their dogs contained, not running in the street. It’s an insensitive comment but it’s accurate," responded another.
"I hate to always be a naysayer but since when is hitting an animal who is out of the care, custody and control of its owner considered a hit and run requiring police intervention? And how big is this dog that it made contact with a headlight on a pickup truck?" wrote another resident.
Other people were thankful for the Channahon police pursuing the matter.
"So glad you’re investigating this. Our four-legged family is so often overlooked and disregarded in these situations," one resident wrote.
"As a neighbor of the victim, I can tell you this was a heartbreaking incident. A puppy lost its life, and it’s chilling to think it could have been a child. The driver didn’t even stop, they just kept going. Sadly, this kind of reckless behavior is something we face daily on this road, where the speed limit is supposed to be 25 mph. It’s time for change," a community member wrote.
"I am a close friend and was there. The vehicle may be a dark colored SUV. Someone we know followed the vehicle to the subdivision across from the golf course and the license plates are all letters. Pic of the pup on the left is who we lost," one person said.
