I-80 Shut Down For Fatal Crash Near Morris: Sheriff's Office

MORRIS — Practically every day, there is a major crash or traffic snarl in the area along Interstate 80 or Interstate 55 near Joliet, and the latest incident happened late Tuesday morning as authorities have called in the Grundy County Coroner.

The sheriff's office advised that the Illinois State Police are now investigating a major crash on I-80 near the 109 mile marker and the interstate needs to be closed. Traffic is being diverted to Route 6 until I-80 can be reopened, Grundy County advised.

"Expect heavy traffic in the Morris area on both Route 6 and Route 47," the agency advised.

The Morris radio station, WCSJ announced on Facebook that I-80 eastbound lanes are closed before the Morris Route 47 exit because of a fatality involving multiple vehicles." Avoid the area," the radio station implored its followers on Facebook.
