WILMINGTON, IL — An unemployed 33-year-old Wilmington man has an appearance at the Will County Courthouse on Friday morning to answer to his latest set of criminal charges, this time it's intimidation and two crimes of domestic battery. Downtown Joliet attorney Chuck Bretz has also entered an appearance on behalf of defendant Matthew Campus, who comes from the 500 block of East County Road.

This week, Bretz filed a motion seeking to quash the warrant out for his client's arrest. If the judge declines, Campus will be taken away in handcuffs by the Will County Sheriff's courthouse security deputies and kept in the Will County Jail.

Campus was kept in the Will County Jail for three days in September on charges of violating a stalking-no contact order. According to last week's criminal complaint, the Wilmington Police Department has accused Campus of threatening to inflict physical harm against a Wilmington woman, who has an order of protection on file against Campus.

According to the same complaint, Campus is accused of causing bodily harm to the same woman, on Nov. 8, by dragging her against a porch rail. The Wilmington Police Department spent about six weeks investigating the case before filing charges against Campus last week.

Last week, Will County Judge Sherri Hale issued the warrant for Campus' arrest, and she checked the box indicating "defendant to be held without release and brought before this court for pretrial detention or conditions of release hearing."
