Sports run deep in Minooka, and Minooka Community High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Indians uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Minooka Community High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.


1. Ashley Jones - Two-Time Olympic Trials Qualifier

A former Indians All–American swimmer, Jones continued her athletic career at the University of Indiana, becoming an NCAA All-American and Big Ten medalist in the IM and backstroke. She qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials twice — first in 2004 while in high school and again in 2008 during her college career. (Source: IUHoosiers.com)


2. Dustin Williams - Two-Time First-Team All-State

Ranked the 28th linebacker by Rivals.com in high school, he was a two-time First-Team All-State in high school before continuing his career at the University of Kentucky, where he played as a redshirt freshman as a defensive reserve and special teamer. (Source: UKAthletics.com)

3. Nina Simotes - Four-Time All-Conference Basketball

A four-time All-Conference member in high school, Simotes scored over 1,500 points as an Indian before continuing her career at the University of Louisville, where she appeared in 81 games. (Source: Shawlocal.com)


4. Russ Weil - Former NFL Running Back

A former three-time All-Conference selection in football and also a two-time Illinois State Champion wrestler, he played all four years at the University of Illinois before playing in the NFL as an undrafted free agent. (Source: NookNews21.com)

5. Cyndi Norman Kiper - Valparaiso University Hall Of Famer

An All-State volleyball player in high school, she set school records at the time and led her team to the program’s first-ever state championship appearance. Her leadership continued at Valparaiso University, leading that team to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, and she is now in Valparaiso University’s Hall of Fame. (Source: NookNews21.com)
