Lottery Ticket Fraud Leads To Channahon Golf Course Chase: Police

CHANNAHON, IL — The Channahon Police Department said its officers assisted the Minooka Police Department apprehending two people in a lottery ticket fraud investigation on Wednesday morning, a crime that involved a high-speed chase.

At 6:09 a.m., Channahon police learned that a getaway vehicle was fleeing from Minooka Police on Bluff Road west of Interstate 55.

During the pursuit, spike strips were deployed on Center Street in Channahon, however, the fleeing vehicle evaded the spike strips by jumping a curb, almost striking a Minooka police officer.

The pursuit continued back onto Bluff Road, then to southwest frontage road, and the getaway vehicle crashed into the ditch on the west side of the road. The passenger was taken into custody, and the driver ran off into the woods west of the Frontage Road, police said.

Channahon police set up a perimeter with Minooka police, Shorewood police, Grundy County Sheriff’s Department, Will County Sheriff’s Department, Joliet police and the Illinois State Police. Drones and police dogs were deployed.

At 8:13 a.m., the getaway driver was spotted running across The Bluffs Golf Course, located at 24355 W. Bluff Road. Channahon police cleared the golf course and the suspect was taken into custody on the north side of the golf course at approximately 8:40 a.m.

The passenger was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was treated for minor injuries due to the crash, police said.

Now that both suspects have been captured, Minooka police has taken over the investigation, Channahon authorities announced.
