CHANNAHON, IL — A small family-run business in Channahon that got its start in Joliet in 1945 is no longer open. Lucenta Tire has permanently closed. It was a tire dealer, repair shop and automotive repair shop in the 24000 block of South Municipal Drive, off Route 6.

In late May, John Lucenta Jr., on behalf of his family, posted on Facebook that Lucenta Tire would be closing May 31.

"It is with a very sad Heart that I must write this," Lucenta stated. "As some of you may or may not know, we acquired new Landlords October 1, 2021 ... The new Landlord, October 1st, gave us 6 months to see what we wanted to do or where we could go to keep serving the Channahon Community, but with my dad out of commission and needing to retire and the higher cost of doing business (rent), it has become unfeasible for me to keep the business running smoothly.

"We have shared many joys and sorrows together over the many years. We understand that you have been an important customer to us, and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you with the closure," stated the Facebook announcement from John Lucenta Jr., Christine Lucenta, Andrew, and Gary.

One man commented on the Lucenta Tire Facebook page: "I can never thank Lucenta enough. Shortly after our son was born, my wife's car needed service. My work schedule was hectic, so Mr. Lucenta came to my house, picked my wife's car up, performed the service, and dropped the car off back to the house at no extra charge. Talk about immaculate service. Your mechanics were always awesome and very friendly when I had questions, or needed a little advice to get through a DIY repair. Lucenta tire's closing will be a loss for our community."
