MINOOKA, IL — In Joliet, the Original Walt's Ice Cream has been operating on West Jefferson Street since 1926, but Walt's isn't the only iconic ice chop that draws tens of thousands of customers every spring, summer and fall. Over in Minooka, the iconic Minooka Creamery — which features a drive-up window — has opened for more than a week, employees told Joliet Patch's editor this past weekened.

A sign in the window lets everyone know the Minooka Creamery, located at 111 McEvilly Road, is back to being open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., after closing for the winter months.

There are about 14 specialty sundaes on the menu, plus there are the Blasters and the popular daily specials such as: Milkshake Monday $2 off any shake, Turtle Tuesday: $2 off turtle sundaes, Weenie Wednesday: $2 off hot dogs and Thursdays: $2 off Sloppy Joes.

During a 2023 interview with Patch, Minooka Village Administrator Dan Duffy said the village re-arranged the parking lot a few years ago to make it safer for families and kids to come around to the Creamery. "It's a small business with a small town atmosphere," Duffy said last year. "If it's nice, it will be busy. On any given day in the summer, you'll have kids come up from our splash park just down the street, to families at night gathering after work or school."

Besides Minooka, The Creamery also has locations in Frankfort, Mokena and Orland Hills. To learn about all the products or to place an online order, visit the website for The Creamery.
