Most Patriotic Bar In IL? Tru Country Opens: 12 Photos

CHANNAHON, IL — Ten months after Eden and Phil Wiechec informed their social media followers they acquired the empty Channahon Bar & Grill, formerly known as Rittof's Tavern during its heyday, Channahon is now home to one of the most patriotic bars you can find anywhere in Illinois. It's now called Tru Country Bar and Grill.

"We are proud to be serving up the area's best themed menu and unbeatable drink specials and live music," the Facebook page for Tru Country proclaims.

Tru Country Bar and Grill marked its grand opening celebration on March 10.

This past Saturday, Joliet Patch's editor visited Channahon and Tru Country was packed by early afternoon. The owners of Tru Country spent several months remodeling both the inside and the outside.

Tru Country Bar looks nothing like what it when it was the Channahon Bar & Grill.

So far, Tru Country has achieved a perfect seven for seven in 5-star Google Reviews since it opened just 10 days ago.

Comments from the 5-star Google Reviews include the following:

Keep in mind, Tru Country is not just a place to go meet up for drinks.

The Starters menu include Fried Pickle Spears, Parmesan Pretzel, Bourbon BBQ Nachos, Southern Style Pork Fries, Cheese Curds and Beer Battered Onion Wings.

As for the Main Eats, Tru Country Bar offers a Cornmeal Catfish, a Brisket Bourbon Sandwich, Fried Bologna Sandwich, Whiskey Bourbon BBQ Ribs and a Pulled Pork Sandwich.

As for Burgers, the one at the top of the menu is the Proud American Burger. The burgers are half pound and come with homemade fries. One of the burgers is called the Bourbon Bacon Jam Juicy Lucy.

Tru Country is now open seven days a week in Channahon.

Its hours are: 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, it's open from 10 a.m. to midnight.

Tru Country Bar and Grill's phone number is 815-828-5111. The address is 25365 South Fryer Street. Tru Country is not located along Channahon's main U.S. Route 6 corridor. It's behind a neighborhood of older homes, near the intersection of Fryer and Bridge streets.
