Paddle And Hike Program Offered At McKinley Woods
Sign up for a special Forest Preserve District program that will get you paddling the Des Plaines and hiking back through the woods.

Enjoy a full day of outdoor fun by signing up for a McKinley to McKinley Paddle and Hike program.
The Forest Preserve District of Will County will offer two sessions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, and Wednesday, Aug. 13. Registration is required by Friday, Aug. 8; call 815-722-9470 to sign up.
Participants will embark on a two-hour paddle down the Des Plaines River to enjoy the spectacular views of the woods and glimpses of wildlife. Break for a picnic lunch at McKinley Woods — Fredrick's Grove then reverse your view with a 2.5-mile riverside hike through the woods back to where we started.

The cost is $20 per person and the program is for ages 14 or older. Participants younger than 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult.
The program will start and end at McKinley Woods – Kerry Sheridan Grove. Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet, and don’t forget your lunch, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a water bottle and dry socks and shoes for the hike back.

This program is for advanced paddlers and enthusiastic hikers. Traveling this distance requires constant paddling. All equipment is provided, including personal flotation devices.
Both the launch and trail from parking lot are paved. The paddle will be about 3.25 miles long, and the hike will be at least 2.5 miles long on natural surfaces.
