Sex Offender Volunteered as Instructor at Martial Arts School: Cops

He was a student at the martial arts school and then volunteered as an instructor, police said.

SHOREWOOD, IL — A Shorewood sex offender was arrested for volunteering at a local martial arts school, police said.

Shane Young, 45, was taken into custody Friday morning. He was charged with two counts of unlawful presence at a facility providing services for children by a sex offender.

Young posted a $150,000 bond at the police department and was released from custody without going to the Will County jail, police said.

Young had volunteered as an instructor at Mun’s Korean Martial Arts school on West Jefferson Street from January until April, according to a criminal complaint filed in Will County court.

Young had taken classes at the martial arts school before he started volunteering there, police said.

Young was convicted of a sex offense in DuPage County in 1999, according to police, and was required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

Even though he is no longer required to register as a sex offender, Young must still abide by the conditions imposed on registered sex offenders, police said.
