CHANNAHON, IL — It turns out that there was no dangerous bomb delivered to the Channahon Police Department on Monday, after all.

According to chief Adam Bogart's Monday evening press release, earlier in the day, the Channahon Police Department responded to a suspicious package at its facility. Out of an abundance of caution, the Channahon Police Department and Village Hall were promptly evacuated.

Bogart said that a secure perimeter was established around the area to ensure public safety, and an emergency alert was issued advising the public to avoid the vicinity of the police department.

The Channahon Police Department activated its emergency response protocol and requested assistance from the Cook County Bomb Squad.

"Upon thorough examination, the bomb squad determined that the contents of the package were inert and posed no immediate threat to public safety," Bogart revealed. “We appreciate the swift response and support from our partners at the Cook County Bomb Squad, the Shorewood Police Department, the Channahon Emergency Management Agency, the Channahon Fire Protection District, and our partners at WESCOM. While this incident was determined not to be a threat to public safety, we treat all suspicious items with the utmost seriousness to protect our residents and staff.”
