Toddler Abducted In Will County Found Safe: Police

The child's father was taken to Will County jail and charged, according to police.

WESLEY TOWNSHIP, IL — A toddler was found safe after being abducted Sunday by their father in Wesley Township, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 10:30 a.m. to the 19500 block of West Goodwin Road, where they learned 32-year-old Carl E. Ellis had battered the child’s mother and left with the toddler, police said.

Ellis was under court-ordered electronic monitoring, but his monitor was found in a nearby field, according to police, who said they requested an AMBER Alert but were denied by state authorities.

Detectives tracked Ellis’ vehicle to the Kankakee area and he was taken into custody by the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office about four hours after the initial call for help, police said, adding the child was found safe in the vehicle.

Ellis was taken to Will County jail and charged with aggravated domestic battery, with additional charges pending review, according to police.

Assisting agencies included the FBI as well as numerous municipal and county departments, police said.

A year ago, Patch reported that Ellis, who has previous domestic battery convictions in Will and Grundy counties, was charged with aggravated domestic battery and four counts of domestic battery after police said he attempted to strangle a woman in Wilmington.
