Underage Alcohol Sting Cites 5 Businesses In Channahon, Shorewood

Twenty-three businesses were spotchecked in Channahon, Minooka and Shorewood. Five were caught selling to minors, State Police noted.

CHANNAHON, IL — The Illinois State Police announced that employees at four businesses in Channahon and one grocery store in Shorewood were busted last week for selling alcoholic beverages to underage informants.

On Sunday, the Illinois State Police issued a press release about last Wednesday's sting in Grundy and Will Counties. Five of the 23 businesses where the spot checks took place in Channahon, Minooka and Shorewood were involved in selling alcohol to a minor, the state police announced.

UPDATE: Illinois State Police issued a follow-up press release on Monday afternoon indicating that the Thorntons Gas Station on Route 6 was not cited for selling alcohol to a minor. The actual culprit was USA Liquors.

According to the corrected press release, the following businesses and employees were cited by the Illinois State Police:

Circle K, 26950 West Eames St., Channahon, employee Andrew Sherwood, 28, of Minooka.

USA Liquors 25228 W Reed St., Channahon, employee Jigarbhai Patel, 27, of Channahon.

Speedway, 23730 West Eames St., Channahon, employee Rafael Northcutt, 27, of Crest Hill.

Love’s Travel Stop, 23801 West Bluff Road, Channahon, employee Katelyn Fazekas, 24, of Gardner.

Aldi, 665 Brookforest Avenue, Shorewood. Employee Bridget M.Wizorek, 31, of Custer Park.

Illinois State Police announced the five employees were arrested for unlawful delivery of alcoholic liquor to a minor, a misdemeanor, and were released on a notice to appear in court.

"The ISP commends establishments and their employees which do not sell alcohol to minors. This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation," Sunday's press release noted. "The ultimate goals are to enforce underage drinking laws and save lives by preventing impaired driving crashes and fatalities."
