BRAIDWOOD, IL — Three weeks after a violent confrontation in the community of Braidwood, the Will County State's Attorney's Office has moved ahead with criminal charges against 63-year-old Wilmington resident Robert M. Mueller.

According to the complaint from Braidwood Sgt. Phil Tyree, on Aug. 24, Mueller knowingly threatened to shoot a man in Braidwood, reached into the man's vehicle and left the man in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery. Mueller "threatened to pull him out of the vehicle," the court files show.

On Friday, Mueller was charged with disorderly conduct and assault. Mueller appeared in Judge Derek Ewanic's Courtroom pro se, without private counsel or a public defender, the court files show. His next hearing is set for Oct. 6 in Courtroom 301.

Mueller was not booked into the Will County Jail, and the judge noted that Mueller was not being charged with a detainable crime under the SAFE-T-Act. The judge did notify Mueller he must stay away from the Braidwood man he is accused of threatening to harm and shoot.
