1 Dead, 7 Injured During Shooting at South Side Party

The shooting happened just after midnight Friday at a gathering in the 2500 block of West 79th Street.

CHICAGO — A man is dead and at least seven people are injured after two men opened fire at a gathering on the 2500 block of West 79th Street, according to Chicago police.

The shooting occurred just after midnight on Friday morning and is the second deadly shooting to take place at a party within the month. On March 14, two people were killed and 15 were wounded at a party in Park Manor.

Several guns were recovered from Friday's scene in the Wrightwood neighborhood on Chicago's Southwest Side.

According to police, the victims are:

  • A 26-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have yet to release his name.
  • A 27-year-old man was shot in the head and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in grave condition.
  • A 22-year-old man was shot in the left knee and taken to Christ Medical Center where he is listed in fair condition.
  • A 28-year-old man was struck in the left leg, police said, and also taken to Christ Medical Center in fair condition.
  • One man, 28, and a woman, 41, both suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen, and were listed in serious condition at unknown hospitals.
  • A 32-year-old man took himself to the Little Mary of Company Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.
  • Another unnamed victim took themselves to Roseland Hospital with a gunshot wound to the body.

Police are questioning one person of interest, according to a police spokesperson.
