17 Hurt After Bus Carrying Special Needs Kids In Head-On Crash: FD

Both drivers were seriously hurt and 16 were taken to hospitals after the crash, which took place in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood.

CHICAGO — Seventeen people were injured, including two critically, when a school bus collided with another vehicle on Tuesday morning in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood, Chicago Fire Department officials said.

Of the 17 injured people, 16 were taken to local hospitals after the crash, which took place at 31st Street and Kedzie Avenue on Tuesday morning.

The bus, which was carrying students with special needs, collided with another vehicle at the intersection, officials said. Fire officials said the vehicle that hit the bus head-on was traveling left of center, according to witnesses.

The two drivers were listed in serious to critical condition and were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital. The special needs students were taken to Stroger and St. Anthony Hospital, but were all listed in good condition, fire officials said.

Fire officials said that a total of nine students were aboard the bus at the time of the crash.
