2 Critically Wounded In Shooting Outside Chicago Funeral Home: CPD

The two victims were shot in the face, neck and jaw after police said a vehicle drove by the funeral home and began firing at the men.

CHICAGO — Two people are in critical condition after police said they were shot outside of a funeral home in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood late Wednesday morning.

The shooting took place at 10:45 a.m. outside of Leak & Sons Funeral home in the 7800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, police said. Two men, ages 38 and 43, were standing on the sidewalk in front of the funeral home when police said a vehicle drove past the funeral home and an occupant inside the vehicle fired shots at the two men.

The 38-year-old man was shot in the face and neck, police said, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. The 43-year-old victim was shot in the jaw and drove himself to the hospital and was reported in critical condition, police said.

Police said there are no suspects in custody.

A spokesperson for the funeral home told NBC Chicago that a third person was also shot, and the victims were leaving a funeral when they were shot. No one inside the funeral home was injured and the spokesperson said that police were already in the area as the funeral was for a victim of a crime.
