2 Dead, 1 Woman Critical After Being Pulled From Lake Michigan: CPD
Police said that a 27-year-old man and a teenager died after jumping into the lake on Labor Day while another woman remains hospitalized

CHICAGO — Two people are dead and a woman was critically injured after they were pulled from Lake Michigan in separate incidents on Labor Day, police said on Tuesday.
Police said that they received a report of a person in the lake after witnesses said that they saw several people jumping into the lake in the 5000 block of South Lake Shore Drive just after 10:30 p.m. on Monday, police said. Witnesses told police that one man, age 27, never resurfaced.
The Chicago Police Marine Unit recovered the man’s body and he was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition before he died later, police reported.

Police said then responded to the lakefront near Montrose Harbor around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, when witnesses told police that a man and a woman were walking along the harbor and then heard someone screaming for help.
Police responded and pulled the woman from the water and transported her to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she is in critical condition, police said.

In East Chicago, police said that a teenager jumped off the rocks after marina staff there warned him not to. Police said the teen resurfaced but struggled to get out of the water. He was taken out of the water by police unresponsive but later died.
The Great Lakes Surf Project reports that 31 people have drowned in Lake Michigan this year.
