2 Officers Shot In Chicago: Police
Spokesman Tom Ahern said the shooter was apprehended and a gun was recovered.
CHICAGO, IL — Two Chicago police officers were shot early Friday morning, suffering non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Officials said the uniformed officers were at a restaurant in the 600 block of South Independence Boulevard at around 3:30 a.m. when one of them saw a person drop a handgun on the ground.
Police said the male suspect picked up the gun and immediately opened fire, shooting an officer who was standing near him. A second officer who was in a nearby squad car was also hit.

Both officers, who did not return fire, were taken to an area hospital. One officer was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, while the other suffered a graze wound to the head.
Police said both officers are in fair condition.

Police say the shooter was taken into custody by a responding officer, and a gun was recovered at the scene. Officials did not release the name or the age of the person in custody in connection with the shooting.
The officers who were shot will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days, police said.
