CHICAGO — Three state police squad cars were struck by drivers last week over a less than 24-hour period in the Chicago area, according to authorities.

The first crash occurred around 2 p.m. Tuesday on northbound Interstate 55 near Woodward Avenue in DuPage County, when a Hyundai sedan rear-ended the parked squad of a trooper handling a collision, police said. The squad’s emergency lights were on, and the Hyundai’s driver, 23-year-old Alyssa M. Ceballos of Lockport, was charged with driving too fast for conditions and a Scott’s Law violation, according to police.

The second crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday, when a Hyundai Sonata struck a black passenger car and two squads with emergency lights on that were being used by troopers who had encountered a collision on northbound Interstate 57 at 107th Street in Cook County, police said. The driver who hit the car and squads, 34-year-old Kashawn M. Walker of Matteson, was taken to a hospital with injuries and charged with a Scott’s Law violation, according to police.
