6 Hurt When SUV Crashes Off Lake Shore Drive Overpass

Chicago police are investigating whether the driver was possibly under the influence at the time of the accident early Tuesday.

CHICAGO — An SUV drove off a Lake Shore Drive overpass and into a LaSalle Drive construction area, injuring at least six people in the vehicle. Police are investigating whether the driver was possibly under the influence when the accident happened, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The crash occurred just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, the report stated. After barreling off the overpass, the SUV landed in construction equipment at a site in the 100 block of East LaSalle Drive, the report added.

The driver and five passengers in the SUV were taken to local hospitals following the accident, the report stated. Police also took the driver into custody as part of a DUI investigation, the report added.
