7 Charged In Deadly Mag Mile Burglary

Chicago police arrested and charged seven men in connection with a smash-and-grab burglary that turned deadly last week.

CHICAGO, IL — Seven men were charged in connection to a deadly smash-and-grab burglary on Chicago's Magnificent Mile last week, according to police.

A group crashed a pickup truck into the Louis Vuitton store on Michigan Avenue before 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept 11, according to the Chicago Police Department. The group fled in multiple vehicles with merchandise from the store, but they left the truck at the store.

One of the fleeing vehicles, a Kia Stinger, hit a Honda CR-V, killing the driver inside the other car, according to police. The county medical examiner identified the victim as a 40-year-old man from Skokie.

Following the crash, police arrested five people in the Kia and recovered merchandise from inside. Another vehicle that fled the store, an Infiniti Q50, lost control on DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

Police also apprehended two out of four suspects who fled on foot.

The seven suspects were charged i connection with the incident:

  • Dejuan Wingard, 30, was charged with murder, burglary, theft of items between $500,000 and $1 million and reckless homicide.
  • Darius Bowdry, 30, was charged with murder, burglary, theft of items between $500,000 and $1 million, resisting or obstructing a police officer and had three outstanding warrants.
  • Keller McMillan, 35, was charged with murder, burglary, theft of items between $500,000 and $1 million and reckless homicide and had three out-of-state warrants.
  • Alton Jackson, 37, was charged with murder, burglary and theft of items between $500,000 and $1 million.
  • Harvey Fisher, 26, was charged with murder, burglary and theft of items between $500,000 and $1 million.
  • Anthony Hemphill, 22, was charged with murder, burglary and theft of items between $500,000 and $1 million.
  • Keith Perkins, 19, was charged with murder, burglary and theft of items between $500,000 and $1 million.
