8-Year-Old Chicago Boy Killed In Accidental Shooting ID'd: Coroner

Jacari A. Brown died after he was struck in the chest by a bullet after police said he and another juvenile found a gun in a Lawndale home.

CHICAGO — The 8-year-old boy who was accidentally shot and killed after he and another juvenile found a gun in a home in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood has been identified, officials said on Wednesday.

The boy was identified as Jacari A. Brown, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Brown died after he and another juvenile found the gun in a home in the 3100 block of West Flournoy Street at 4:25 a.m. on Tuesday. Police said that the gun accidentally went off and the bullet struck the boy in the chest, Chicago Police said.

The boy was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 5:30 a.m., police said. No further information has been provided by the police. According to the address provided by the medical examiner, the boy lived on the same block as where the shooting took place.

Police recovered the gun at the scene and no further injuries were reported.
