812 Homicides / Jeff Garlin / Casino Pitches / Bears Outbreak

It's Friday! Don't miss the psychedelic soul band Chicano Batman at Thalia Hall!

Actor Jeff Garlin won't be returning to ABC's hit sitcom, "The Goldbergs."

The Chicago-born comedian, who grew up in Morton Grove, agreed to leave the show amid allegations of on-set misconduct.

  • The bodies keep piling up. So far this year there have been 812 murders in Chicago, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. That's already more homicides than any year since 1996, when there were 856 as the crack epidemic started to lose steam, Chip Mitchell reports. (WBEZ)
  • There's a full-blown coronavirus outbreak at Halas Hall. Three Bears coaches and six more players — Allen Robinson, Eddie Jackson, Jesse James, Ryan Nall, Joel Iyiegbuniwe and Isaiah Coulter — were sidelined after testing positive for COVID-19. So far, 12 players have tested positive. (NBC5)

  • A lot went wrong in the wake of the 2019 wrongful police raid of Black social worker Anjanette Young's home. But don't call it a mayoral cover-up, according to an independent probe. (Patch)
  • Get jabbed by New Year's Even or don't get a paycheck. That now is the law of the land for most city employees. An arbitrator upheld City Hall's coronavirus vaccine mandate for city workers represented by seven public employee unions. (WTTW)
