Body Of Woman, 96, Found In Chicago Apartment Freezer: Police

Police said the woman's body was discovered inside a unit in the 5500 block of Melrose Street and reports said the landlord was arrested.

CHICAGO – Chicago Police are investigating the location of an apartment building on the city’s Northwest Side after police said that the body of a 96-year-old woman was found in the freezer of one of the units.

Police were called to the 5500 block of West Melrose Street in the city’s Cragin neighborhood around 4:30 p.m. Monday and found the woman in the freezer, NBC Chicago reported. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Residents of the building said the landlord was taken into custody, and one told ABC 7 that the 96-year-old may be the landlord's mother. The resident said the landlord's mother had been sick, adding, "when I asked the owner for her mom, she said she was in a nursing home in Wisconsin."
