Apartment Fire Destroys Nearby Brewery In Albany Park

An apartment fire in Albany Park spread to Twisted Hippo brewery, causing a partial collapse of the building.

CHICAGO, IL — An apartment fire early Monday morning in Albany Park spread to multiple buildings nearby, including a local brewery. The blaze was reported at a 3-story apartment building at 4340 N. Richmond St.around 3:30 a.m., according to a CBS-2 report.

Police said a 60-year-old man was taken to a local hospital for possible smoke inhalation, which is the only reported injury from the fire.

Neighbors reported hearing explosion during the incident, as the fire spread to a second building, the Twisted Hippo brewery, causing a partial collapse of the building.

The Chicago Fire Department said the Twisted Hippo building will have to be demolished later Monday. Another business, the Ultimate Ninja gym, was also damaged by the fire, according to the CBS report.

“It’s hard to see everything you worked for go up in flames, but I’m just glad my staff and everyone is okay,” Twisted Hippo owner Marilee Rutherford told CBS.
