April Snowfall Causes Minor Delays At O'Hare Airport

Flurries caused more than 50 flights to be grounded Monday morning, according to the airport.

CHICAGO, IL — Snow was causing minor delays for airlines at O'Hare International Airport on Monday morning, according to the airport. Mid-April flurries were delaying flights for an average of about 17 minutes and more than 50 flights had been canceled, the Chicago Department of Aviation reported on its website.

A hazardous weather warning was issued early Monday by the National Weather Service for the Chicago area and northeast Illinois. The highest snow totals were expected in the morning, with most of the accumulation forecast to fall north of Interstate 90, the weather service said. About 0.4 inches of snow had fallen at O'Hare by 7 a.m., according to the NWS.

As of 11:30 a.m., airlines had canceled 53 flights at O'Hare. Only six flights had been canceled at Midway Airport, and it's unclear if weather was the reason for those cancellations.
