1. A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday in East Side - the second Chicagoan killed by a hit-and-run driver this week. The cyclist was hit around 6:15 a.m. in the 9900 block of South Avenue L. Their identity has not been released. (Block Club)
2. The CTA outlined a new plan this week to address safety concerns and service delays on trains and buses. CTA President Dorval Carter cited workforce shortages as a major issue, along with the need to address passenger struggles with “homelessness, mental health problems and substance use disorder.” (WTTW)
3. Two Chicago men have been missing since July 27, when they took a boat onto Lake Michigan from an Indiana Harbor. The Coast Guard conducted a two-day search for Dexter Sain and Curtis Herron, who "had little to no boating experience." (Paid source: Tribune)
4. Chicago Public Schools could continue its “dramatic downward slide” in enrollment this fall, with less than 300,000 students expected to attend class in the district. A new WBEZ report examines reasons for the drop in the student population, and projections for the future. (WBEZ)
