NAPERVILLE, IL — Illinois has 6,963 local units of government, more than any other state in the nation. Governor Rauner and several legislators met in Naperville to announce four pieces of legislation to reduce the number of government agencies via local referendum and create more efficiency at the municipal level. Something Rauner says will mean more money in taxpayers’ pockets.

Woodstock representative Jack Franks was the lone Democrat to speak on behalf of the consolidation legislation.

Rauner acknowledged there will be opponents to the consolidation effort.

DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin sat on the consolidation committee. His county’s consolidation efforts served as a framework for some of the recommendations put forth by the task force.
