Cabbie Groped Woman During Ride In River North: Cops

The taxi driver, 27, faces criminal sexual abuse, kidnapping and other felony charges following the weekend incident.

CHICAGO, IL — A cab driver was arrested after he allegedly groped a 24-year-old woman who had hailed a ride in his cab over the weekend in the River North neighborhood, according to Chicago police. Murasbek Elchiev, 27, of Niles, is charged with felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse, felony aggravated kidnapping and felony unlawful restraint stemming from the incident.

According to police, the woman hailed Elchiev's cab at around 2:35 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in the 300 block of West Ontario Street. The cabbie then allegedly locked the cab's doors during the ride, and he's then accused of grabbing the woman, police said.

Eventually, the woman escaped from the cab, and police said she was not hurt in the incident. Officers later arrested Elchiev at about 3:18 p.m. Saturday at a parking lot at O'Hare International Airport. His next court date is set for Tuesday.

Elchiev is the second Chicago cab driver facing sexual abuse and kidnapping charges stemming from a woman's accusations following a fare last week, according to police. Mustafa Dikbas, 36, was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 26-year-old woman in his cab Feb. 25 in the 3800 block of North Recreation Drive along the city's lakefront, near Boystown, police said.
