- Rich kids get better grades at Chicago Public Schools. Reporter Sarah Karp found poor kids receive far more D's and F's than do wealthier students, who received significantly more A's and B's on report cards. (WBEZ)
- Former state Rep. Edward Acevedo pleaded guilty to tax evasion Tuesday. The 52-year-old admitted to not keeping sufficient records for his work as a consultant and not paying about $37,000 in income taxes to the federal government. He faces up to a year in prison. (Patch)
- The city's coronavirus travel advisory list grew by two states — California and Mississippi — as cases of COVID-19 surge across America before the Christmas holiday. As of Tuesday, 42 states and the District of Columbia were on the city's "orange list" for reaching a coronavirus threshold of 15 cases per day per 100,000 people. (Patch)
- Two-and-a-half years after being indicted on federal racketeering, bribery and extortion charges, Ald. Ed Burke's case inches closer to trial. A federal judge expects to finish reviewing 700 pages of arguments and "God willing" schedule oral arguments in February, Heather Cherone reports. (WTTW)
