1. More than 450 priests and brothers are named in a new report on sex abuse in the Catholic church, Patch reports. A five-year investigation reveals the clergy “abused 1,997 children across all six Catholic dioceses in Illinois.” Attorney General Kwame Raoul said the intention of the report published Tuesday “is to provide a public accounting and a measure of healing to survivors who have long suffered in silence." 2. Half of Chicago residents have witnessed a shooting before the age of 40, according to a new study from university researchers. “The average age of those who’d seen shootings was just 14 years old, while the average age for people who had been shot was 17 years old,” Block Club reports. 3. City Council members are expected to introduce an ordinance today to expand outdoor dining at Chicago restaurants, Crain’s reports. The idea of street closures was originally introduced during Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s term to help restaurants struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency. 4. A new film studio is being developed on the Northwest Side, the Tribune reports. The former site of a Marshall Fields campus in Avondale will become The Fields Studios by early next year, including nine soundstages and additional production offices. Gov. J.B. Pritzker said, “this studio and the work it will attract will bring revenue into Illinois and help cement our place in the national film and TV scene.” Film and television productions in Illinois generated a record $700 million last year.
