The federal conviction of an admittedly slovenly, absent-minded Daley family politician, Ald. Patrick Daley Thompson, is a Chicago first.

But don't mistake that for a loss clout.

"No one gave a rip about Patrick. And I don't know anybody who thought that this guy [Thompson] was going to be the next Daley mayor," a long-time Daley operative told me.

  • Principal's at five South Side Catholic high schools want Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the city's top doctor to lift the city's school mask mandates. In a letter, the principal's claimed mandated masking is "inflicting tangible damage to our young people that will take years to heal," Lorraine Swanson reports. (Patch)

  • A good Samaritan found a 2-year-old walking alone in the middle of the street near 71st and Union around 4 a.m. Tuesday. TSA agent David Frost pulled over and asked, "Where are your parents?," and the toddler started crying. The girl was later reunited with her parents. (CBS2)
  • "Someone seen something. Please speak out," Brandy Martin said of the shooting that killed her teenage nephew, Sincere Cole, who was a creative, ambitious entrepreneur at 15. "Don’t wait for it to happen to you, and you have to stand in front of these cameras and ask for the same help you refuse to give,” Martin said. (WGN)
