Chicago Firefighter's Remaining 2 Kids Die From Injuries From Fire: FD
Walter Stewart's wife and three kids who were injured in a house fire last week have all died after the blaze on the city's northwest side.
CHICAGO — A house fire that claimed the lives of a Chicago firefighter’s wife and 7-year-old son has now also led to the deaths of the firefighter’s other two children, both of whom were injured in the blaze last week, fire officials said.
The firefighter's 2-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter died on Friday night, three days after the house fire in Chicago’s Montclair neighborhood, fire officials announced. The fire started just after 9 p.m. on March 7 in the 2500 block of North Rutherford Avenue and has been ruled accidental after the fire started in the kitchen.
Fire officials have said there were working smoke detectors in the house at the time of the fire.

The firefighter was working at another fire when he heard the report of the blaze at his home on the scanner, officials said. Walter Stewart rushed to the scene and started performing life-saving measures on his four family members, all of whom were inside the house at the time of the fire.
On March 8, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office announced that 7-year-old Ezra Stewart had died from his injuries. On Friday morning, the medical examiner reported that Stewart’s wife, 36-year-old Summer Day Stewart had died from her injuries.

Fire officials announced on Saturday that the couple’s other two children died on Friday night. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has yet to publicly identify the other two children. ABC 7 reported that a deceased family pet was also removed from the home a day after the fire.
Ignite The Spirit, a charitable arm of the Chicago Fire Department, has established a fund to help the family.
