Chicago Man Shot While Seated at his Kitchen Table

Chicago police say a stray bullet killed a Rosemoor man who was busy paying bills in his kitchen.

A 32-year-old South Side man died Tuesday evening after being shot in the neck while paying bills at his kitchen table.

Chicago police said the stray bullet hit Demarco Kennedy around 8 p.m. while he was seated at a table in his Rosemoor neighborhood home in the 600 block of East 102 Place, according to ABC 7.

"The shots apparently came from the parking lot of a nearby Popeyes fast-food restaurant," ABC 7 reported. "A bullet traveled between a thin gangway to the second floor of home. It ricocheted off the window handle and moved inside, hitting Kennedy."

Kennedy's wife and three children — ages 7, 12, and 14 years old — were in another room at the time.

His wife stressed that, "This didn't have to happen" to a crowd Wednesday night at Operation Wake Up, a community event aimed at ending violence in and around the city. She described her husband as a family man who loved his children and his job working for the railroad.
