Man Who Shot State Trooper Was Wanted In Homicide Probe: Illinois State Police

CHICAGO — A 37-year-old Chicago man who police said was being sought in connection with a recent homicide, is in custody after police said he shot at an Illinois State Trooper on Tuesday night, police said.

Cristobal Santana faces charges after he was arrested early Wednesday morning after the Illinois State Police said he shot at a trooper and hit him in the leg. The shooting took place in the 1600 block of Toronto Road in Sangamon County at around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Police said that the trooper made contact with Santana, who was being sought in connection with the homicide, and during the interaction, Santana shot at the trooper. After firing the gun, police said that Santana fled before being taken into custody around 2 a.m. on Wednesday.

The incident remains under investigation and the police did not provide any further information.
