'Chicago PD' Filming Near Slain Cop's Murder Scene Angers Some
The NBC series scheduled filming at the building near the Thompson Center weeks in advance.

CHICAGO, IL — Filming for the NBC TV series "Chicago P.D." on Wednesday at a building in the Loop has upset some who found it insensitive following Tuesday's fatal shooting of a Chicago police officer at the nearby Thompson Center. Actors and a crew from the series were seen working on the show in the 100 block of North Clark Street, a block away from the site where Cmdr. Paul Bauer was gunned down.
"Am I alone in finding it disrespectful that #ChicagoPD is filming at the Thompson Center a day after the killing of actual Chicago PD member, Paul Bauer? Poor taste IMO," one person commented on Twitter.
A spokeswoman for Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events told the Chicago Tribune that filming inside the building at 161 N. Clark St. was scheduled weeks in advance, and no scenes were actually shot at the Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St. Along with the interior shots, the TV show also filmed a short scene outside the Clark Street building, the report added.

It's surreal today in this shot, at least at 161 N. Clark - we're again unable to exit onto Clark Street, but because Chicago PD is filming in/around our building. Coming off the El, seeing tons of trucks/activity, I thought CPD was still working, but it's Hollywood. #toosoon

But the filming's proximity — both in terms of time and geography — to the shooting was inappropriate for some Chicagoans who noticed the crews working Wednesday. And they posted their criticism to social media.
"They are filming Chicago PD **feet** from where Cmdr. Paul Bauer was gunned down and killed yesterday," a post stated on Twitter. "I can’t say anything constructive about this."

Producers for "Chicago P.D." — part of Dick Wolf's trio Chicago-set TV procedurals that includes "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago Med" — also posted a casting call Wednesday for a "rough, biker type" boyfriend and a "gang banger" with a "really tough/intimidating look." The scenes for those roles were set to film Friday, Feb. 16, and Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Chicago, but specific locations were not given in the casting call.
New episodes of "Chicago P.D." begin airing Feb. 28.
