Chicago Radio Station Says 'Christmas Time Is Here' With Format Switch

Starting Thursday, 93.9 LITE FM will begin playing nothing but Christmas songs throughout the holiday season.

CHICAGO — It will begin to sound a lot like Christmas in Chicagoland Thursday afternoon with the return of around-the-clock holiday music on radio station 93.9 LITE FM. The Chicago-based station said Christmas music will begin playing at 4 p.m. and will continue with a two-hour commercial-free block.

In a social media announcement, 93.9 LITE FM said this will mark its 23rd year of playing only Christmas music during the season. The radio station, owned by iHeartMedia, usually plays soft, contemporary adult music. It typically switches to only Christmas music from November through Dec. 26.

In a social media post, LITE FM radio host Mick Lee asked his followers what song the station should play first Thursday. According to Lee, here are the first songs played the past five years:
