This Chicago Restaurant Ranked Among 10 Best In North America
A second Chicago restaurant made the top-50 list at No. 31.
CHICAGO — Smyth in Chicago was recently ranked No. 4 on North America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 and was named The Best Restaurant in Midwest USA 2025.
The inaugural ranking was determined by 300 industry experts and included 37 restaurants in the U.S., 11 in Canada and two in the Caribbean.
The top three were Atomix in New York at No. 1, Mon Lapin in Montreal at No. 2 and Restaurant Pearl Morissette in Lincoln, Ontario, at No. 3.

Kasama in Chicago also made the list at No. 31.
The ranking touted Smyth’s multi-hour tasting menu and noted that the restaurant is named for Smyth County, Virginia, where chefs Karen Urie Shields and John Shields honed their philosophy while focusing on locally grown and foraged produce.

“Smyth is all about partnership: of the couple at the helm (Karen on pastry and John on savoury), but also between ingredients, instinct and technique,” the ranking’s website said. “The warm mushroom-chocolate tart is a frequently commented on example, something diners feel surprised to find they love.”
