Chicago Snow Parking: Show Us Best Way To 'Call Dibs' After Storm

Share your photos of the creative methods Chicagoans have used to hang on to street parking following Friday's snowstorm.

CHICAGO, IL — Anyone who has lived in Chicago for even a brief period of time knows how tough it can be to find that perfect parking spot on the street that not only is near where you live but is also legal. The challenge becomes even greater when severe winter weather like the kind seen Friday is thrown into the mix.

With the first major snowstorm of the season, car owners around Chicago have begun the time-honored — albeit dubious — practice of "calling dibs" on curbside parking spaces. In fact, calling dibs is such a widespread in the city that it has been elevated to an artform.

Thankfully, the internet was created to showcase just this type of thing. Since 2011, Chicago Dibs has been collecting creative examples and methods of securing that too-good-to-be-true, you-can-have-it-over-my-dead-body parking spots. Photos documenting the levels of madness genius involved in these efforts can be found on the informal group's Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr accounts.

But we're greedy at Patch, and given the variety how people call dibs on their parking spots, we we want more. Go to Chicago Patch's Facebook page and share photos of your favorite examples of dib calling you've seen on city streets following Friday's snowstorm. Those pictures — and possibly stories, if you include an amusing anecdote — could be used in a future article.

We've called dibs.
