Woman Charged With Attempted Murder In Naked Squad Car Theft: Police

CHICAGO — A 34-year-old Chicago woman who police say stole a Chicago Police vehicle after lying naked in the street faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, police announced on Wednesday.

Whitley Temple is scheduled to appear in bond court on Wednesday after she was charged in the incident, which took place Monday morning. Temple faces seven criminal charges including aggravated battery of a police officer, resisting and obstructing an officer, vehicular hijacking, attempted first-degree murder, and felony possession of a stolen vehicle, Chicago police said.

Temple also faces a misdemeanor count of driving with a suspended license and was given a citation for operating an uninsured vehicle, police said.

Temple was arrested at 9:44 a.m. on Monday in the 500 block of S. Damen Avenue after police said she stole the CPD vehicle of an officer who stopped to investigate why Temple was lying naked in the street, police said. Police said she also dragged the officer with the squad car, causing him to suffer leg injuries and a laceration to the head.

Temple then crashed into multiple cars and was arrested, police said.
