Chicagohenge + Sox "Ex-Cubs Factor" + Proof of Vax Pushback

Here's the latest edition the Chicago Patch, your source for the lowdown on all things Chicago.

Morning, Chicago! It's Wednesday, the start of Chicagohenge — that magical time of the year when you can see (weather permitting) the sun lines up with the city street grid. Between today and Friday, pop a squat on an east-west facing street around sunset or sunrise and enjoy the view. Don't forget to snap a photo to impress your Instagram followers.

Before we get started, let's talk about the playoff-bound White Sox. Should superstitious fans — and folks old enough to remember Mike Royko's columns — be worried about the "Ex-Cub" factor?

Chicago Patch Top 5:

  • Where's the outrage over 51 Black women who have been reported missing or found dead in Chicago? That's what activist priest, the Rev. Michael Pfleger, is asking in response to America's fascination with the disappearance of Gabby Petito — a 22-year-old white travel blogger who investigators believe was found dead at Grand Teton National Park. “What is missing are the stories of hundreds and thousands of women and girls of color whose stories get blacked out by the news media,” Pfleger said. • Could Chicago be the next big city to require proof of vaccinations for indoor dining and entertainment? Eight ward bosses wrote a letter to Chicago's top doctor advocating for the move. Some restaurant owners are pushing back. (WGN)

  • Mayor Lori Lightfoot is apparently starting to take seriously the Bears' threat to leave Soldier Field for the suburbs. Lightfoot, a Bears fan, says she's now open to making stadium improvements to keep football on the lakefront. Could that mean putting a retractable roof on the stadium? Lightfoot wouldn't say. (Sun-Times)
  • WARNING: Stay out of Lake Michigan! The National Weather Service warns of gale force winds and waves as high as 14-feet today and Thursday. (NWS)
