Christmas Weather: Near-Record High Temps In Chicago Area
It's possible that this year, Chicago will see its second-hottest Christmas Day in recorded history.
METRO CHICAGO, IL — It's certainly not beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Chicago region, according to forecasts by the National Weather Service. This year's may be the second hottest Christmas Day in recorded history.
The hottest Christmas in Chicago was in 1982, when the temperature topped out at 64 degrees.

This year, the NWS forecasts it will be between 51 and 59 degrees on Christmas Day.

Either way, Chicago has only seen eight Christmas Days in the 50s since 1877, and this year is likely to make that number nine.
The near-record warmth comes after another Chicago-area weather record: while it won't be a white Christmas, this past Halloween had the most snow ever for Oct. 31 in Illinois, beating the previous record by more than three inches.

The weather will keep warm in the days following Christmas, with a high of 54 on Thursday and high temperatures dropping into the 40s over the weekend.
