City Hall 'Do Not Rehire' List Omits Chicago Hall of Shamers

CHICAGO — It's hard to believe Chicago City Hall's employment blacklist is only 29 pages long.

Fired police Supt. Eddie Johnson and the local media's favorite City Hall spokesman, Bill McCaffery, who also recently got the axe, are the latest former employees blackballed from city jobs. Jose Moreno, a former Chicago firefighter who pleaded guilty to molesting five children, and 21 other former Fire Department employees won't be considered for future city jobs either.

Anthony Abbate, the former Chicago cop who brutally beat a bartender, sits atop the alphabetized list. Jason Van Dyke, the on-duty officer found guilty of murdering Laquan McDonald, and 190 other former police department employees decorate the blacklist pages.

Alison Yohanna, a Civilian Office of Police Accountability investigator who was fired and charged with a felony for reporting a phony shooting threat to police, earned a spot on the last page of the infamous list of workers indefinitely banned from collecting a city paycheck again.

Barney Lonzo, who got fired after being charged with a hate crime for beating a co-worker, and 46 other aviation department employees have earned a lifetime ban from city work.

As things turn out, former Alds. Isaac Carothers (29th) and Arenda Troutman (20th), who went to jail on federal corruption and bribery charges, respectively, are the only former elected officials banned from getting city jobs.

Felonious former City Clerk James Laski and former City Treasurer Miriam Santos, who both went to prison on corruption charges, did not get blackballed from city work. Neither did, former ward bosses Percy Giles (37th), Ed "Fast Eddie" Vyrdolyak (10th), William "The Hog with the Big Nuts" Beavers (7th), Sandi Jackson (7th), Willie Cochran (20th) and Lawrence Bloom (5th), who each went to jail for one thing or another.

Since his name is omitted from the blacklist, maybe City Hall would consider letting FBI mole, former Ald. Danny Solis (22nd), return to the payroll. After all, after getting pinched at a massage parlor he did a good thing, and probably picked up some audio recording skills while working for the feds.

When I asked a City Hall spokesperson about the City Hall of Shamers omitted from the hiring ban list, I didn't get an immediate response.

Maybe they're trying to save money on paper?
