The family of the beaten teen apologizes for his "excessive drinking and extremely poor judgment" in a series of altercations in the university town which left him with a damaged eye socket, broken front teeth and a dozen stitches to his lip. The incident received a great deal of publicity, but the FBI reviewed security camera footage and concluded no hate crime took place.
