Columbus Day 2017: What's Open And Closed In Chicago?

Find out how Monday's federal holiday will affect city agencies, institutions and services.

CHICAGO, IL — Observed on the second Monday of October, Columbus Day is a federal holiday that can be a bit confusing when it comes to knowing what's open and what's closed. Adding to the confusion is that many people still have to work that day, and it can leave them wondering if other places around the city are in the same situation.

With that in mind, Patch has put together a list on how Columbus Day will affect some of the prominent institutions and services in Chicago.

This year, the holiday also will have a few special events for Chicagoans to check out. The city's Columbus Day Parade will celebrate its 65th anniversary, starting at 1 p.m. and running along State Street from Lake to Van Buren streets. Later in the afternoon, the Chicago Cubs will play host to Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Washington Nationals, and in the evening, rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky will make his first start as the Chicago Bears face the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field for "Monday Night Football."
