Columbus Day 2018: What's Open And Closed In Chicago
Find out how Monday's holiday will affect city agencies, institutions and services.

CHICAGO — Observed on the second Monday of October, Columbus Day is a federal holiday that can be a bit confusing when it comes to knowing what's open and what's closed. Adding to the confusion is that many people still have to work that day, and it can leave them wondering if other places around the city are in the same situation.
With that in mind, Patch has put together a list on how Columbus Day will affect some of the prominent institutions and services in Chicago.
And just a reminder: Chicago's Columbus Day Parade will step off at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, along State Street.

Here's a look at how some of the institutions and services around Chicago will be handling Columbus Day:

Schools: No classes for Chicago Public Schools.
City Government: City Hall and city offices will be closed. County, state and federal government offices will be closed, too.
Chicago Public Library: Branches will be open.
Chicago Park District: Offices will be closed, but most parks will be open and operating on a reduced holiday schedule. The conservatories in Garfield Park and Lincoln Park will be open. Go to the district's website for more information.
Postal Service: No mail delivery, and all post offices will be closed.
Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.
CTA and Metra: Trains and buses for the transportation agencies will be running on normal schedules.
Retailers, Restaurants, Bars and Other Businesses: Most will be open, but check hours ahead of time.
