Cops Cracking Down On This Expressway Violation In Chicago Area

"This dangerous activity can catch other drivers by surprise and lead to devastating accidents," Undersheriff Marlon Parks said.

COOK COUNTY, IL — The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is cracking down on drivers who bypass slow traffic on expressway shoulders, the agency announced last week.

Sheriff’s police conducted an expressway patrol targeting shoulder drivers and, in just a few hours, law enforcement pulled over and ticketed more than 100 vehicles, 49 of which were captured on video by the agency’s helicopter, according to a Thursday Facebook post from the sheriff's office.

"We'll be on the lookout for speeding, driving under the influence, texting while driving and other dangerous infractions. But one infraction that we will be especially diligent about is illegal use of the shoulder to bypass slower traffic,” Undersheriff Marlon Parks said in a video Monday on Facebook.
