CHICAGO — One game. Nine innings. Twenty seven outs. That's what the Chicago Cubs' postseason hopes hinge on after losing Monday's tiebreaker — and the National League Central — to the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cubs now will play the Colorado Rockies in the single-elimination Wild Card game Tuesday. The winner of that game will advance to the NL Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Pitching Matchup: Jon Lester (18-16, 3.32 ERA) vs. Kyle Freeland (17-7, 3.39 ERA)
Weather: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62.
Jonny Be Good: Legendary Baltimore Orioles manager Earl Weaver once said that momentum is only as good as the next day's starting pitcher. If that's the case, the Cubs are probably feeling pretty good going into Tuesday's game.
Lester is 5-1 in his last seven games, posting a 1.96 ERA during that stretch. He also has a career 2.55 ERA in the postseason.
Wild Card Records: The Cubs and Rockies have played in a single-elimination Wild Card game since Major League Baseball expanded the format to two teams in 2012. Chicago is 1-0, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2015. Colorado is 0-1, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017.
Wild Card Success: An NL Wild Card team has advanced to the World Series eight times. In those eight instances, the NL Wild Card has won only four times, with the Florida Marlins doing it twice. The San Francisco Giants are the only team to do it since the format was expanded to two teams.
